Pizzo Sella

Giardino Incompiuto focuses on the illegally constructed real estate development of Pizzo Sella, on the outskirts of Palermo, as the testing ground for the prototypical project. The neighbourhood, known by many Palermitans as “the hill of shame”, was only partially completed before construction was halted due to the discovery of mafia investment in the project.

Of the 330 villas planned for the site, only 60 were finished and occupied, with a further 72 villas left in various states of incompletion. Residents now live amongst concrete skeletons, shamed by the perception of their Mafiosi ties.

The following photographs were taken during three visits to Palermo during 2019.
