Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

Drawn during the summer of 2017, the 1920s scene depicts a fictional performance of Peter Pan, on show at the world’s longest continually running theatre site: Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Inspired by the illustrative style of William Heath Robinson, the drawing features Captain Hook swinging from a chandelier, a reanimated Egyptian mummy, rooftop badminton, and Andrew Lloyd Webber clinging to the trunk of a dancing elephant.

Sold to become Loyd Webber’s 70th birthday present, the drawing has since received a commendation in the Royal Institute of British Architect’s annual Eyeline drawing Prize. The original print, measuring 2334 x 841mm now hangs in the Really Useful Theatre Group’s London headquarters, neighbouring the theatre itself.
